Our Legacy

Milton J. Johnson entered this world on August 16, 1949, in the warm embrace of Leesburg, GA, as the eighth cherished child of Willie Ruddy and Earnie Lee (Byrd) Johnson. His journey through life was marked by love, commitment, and an unwavering dedication to family.

On May 31, 1969, Milton exchanged vows with Ruby Clinton, a union blessed with the joy of two beloved sons. Later, on May 10, 1984, he found another kindred spirit in Yvonne Jones, sealing their bond in marriage in Toledo, OH. Together, they nurtured a beautiful family of six children: Milton J. Johnson, Jr., Jason A. Jones, Maurice S. Johnson I, Marlon J. Johnson, Mishae J. (Johnson) Rice, and Malcolm J. Milledge.

Family was the cornerstone of Milton's life, alongside his deep-rooted passions for education, civil rights, and the exhilarating freedom of the open road on his beloved Honda Goldwing motorcycle. He found joy in the pulse-pounding excitement of car and motorcycle racing, with a particular fondness for classic Chevrolets.

A social butterfly in every sense, Milton radiated warmth and compassion wherever he went. His circle of friends was vast and diverse, a testament to his magnetic personality and boundless love. Whether spending cherished moments with lifelong friends like Ken Martin, Larry Barnes, and Ann Mays Miller, or sharing laughter with dear neighbors Charles & Geanie Whitlock, Milton's presence brought joy to all who knew him.

Milton's spiritual journey was deeply woven into the fabric of his life. He served as Chairman of the Deacon Board at Holy Tabernacle Baptist Church in Detroit, MI, for an incredible 26 years, and later at Greater United Pleasant Green Baptist Church in Leesburg, GA, for 11 years until his heavenly call.

Professionally, Milton's career was marked by dedication and leadership. From his days as a construction worker and press operator at Uniroyal Tire Company in Detroit, MI, to his role as a construction laborer's Union Steward in Ann Arbor, MI, he left an indelible mark on all who crossed his path. At the Ford Motor Company Ypsilanti Plant, he served with honor as a respected Team Leader of the Security Department and held the esteemed title of honorary member of UAW Local 849.

Milton J. Johnson's legacy is one of love, service, and boundless kindness. He touched countless lives with his gentle spirit and unwavering devotion, leaving behind a legacy that will forever be cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
